In this project example from Hub RTP in Durham, North Carolina, an electrical conduit is attached alongside the side of the beam. The conduit then goes up through the bottom of a preformed hole in the boardwalk treads. For this project, the electrical wires run the full length of the boardwalk, and lighting is attached to the railings.
For these projects, a light pole is attached to the actual boardwalk treads. You can see that the treads with the light poles were designed as having a longer width to allow for the light pole to fall outside the railing. Electrical boxes also sit on treads that are wider than other treads on the boardwalk.
In this Keowee Key Boardwalk in Keowee, South Carolina, designers chose to utilize smaller light posts lined down the length of the boardwalk.
