PermaTrak Cost Stability Amidst Lumber Industry Volatility

Posted: October 6, 2020

The lumber industry has seen a major uptick in pricing during the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, the National Association of Home Builders reports that lumber costs have increased over 170% since mid-April, to an all-time high in August. A few drivers may be causing the increase:

  • Increased demand due to people staying home and taking on renovation projects

  • Decreased supply due to COVID-related mill shutdowns

  • Imported lumber used in commercial building has seen delays in clearing customs and tariffs, resulting in decreased supply and increased costs

Lumber shortages and higher costs are expected to remain through the end of the year and into early 2021.

While PermaTrak precast concrete materials have huge benefits over traditional wood, including being low maintenance, strong and durable, and safer than alternatives, PermaTrak is also able to pass on pricing stability to our customers during this unprecedented time in the market.
