Project Profile

Hickory Riverwalk

Challenge

The Hickory Riverwalk project required an elevated boardwalk to connect key landmarks and improve walkability. PermaTrak’s team tackled the challenge of aligning the boardwalk with uneven terrain and existing infrastructure while maintaining structural integrity and accessibility. This required careful coordination with the City Walk master plan to ensure the design met both practical needs and aesthetic goals.

As part of the larger Hickory Trail initiative, the boardwalk enhances infrastructure, improves the environment, and contributes to the city’s modern, connected design. It also integrates seamlessly into the City Walk master plan, serving as both a practical pathway and a standout feature of Hickory’s revitalized downtown.

Solution

PermaTrak’s design-build approach, combined with the talent at David E. Looper & Company and a flexible owner, was key to solving the alignment challenges while remaining within budget. With an experienced in-house engineering team, we worked directly with contractor and ownership to create a custom solution tailored to the site’s needs.

The flexibility of the PermaTrak precast concrete system allowed for seamless integration with the Riverwalk design. This adaptability simplified construction, reduced costs, and ensured a durable, long-lasting structure.

The finished boardwalk isn’t just practical—it also adds a striking visual element. It easily connects to nearby amenities and helps bring Hickory’s vision of innovation and revitalization to life. With PermaTrak’s custom approach, this part of the City Walk is now a reality, blending smart design with lasting benefits for the city.
